About

A barrel shop with no warehouse

Barrel Never Pumps answers a question nobody asked: what if you could fill a cart with crude oil, check out, and have absolutely none of it turn up?

22 origins · 156 grades · 0 deliveries

How the joke works

The trick is that the shop is genuinely well built. Browsing works. The search filters properly. The pack-size selector reprices instantly. The cart holds quantities, the card form validates, and the confirmation is a properly designed piece of interface. The one thing missing is the delivery — and it is missing completely, permanently and by design.

That is why the copy is friendly rather than sneering. Nothing here is broken. The fulfilment is simply absent, and no amount of cheerful competence will produce a barrel.

What is real

  • Crude grade names, grouped by the region they actually come from
  • The API gravity and sulphur figures attached to each grade
  • City names, and the sporting and civic rivalries between them
  • Everything you can do with the page itself — the cart, the search, the filters

What is invented

  • Every price, and every crossed-out "was" price behind it
  • Every rating, review count and number of barrels "lifted"
  • Every discount percentage
  • Every ministry, bureau and competitor named during checkout
  • Every delivery estimate, which is to say all of them

On the diversions

When you check out, your order is diverted to a rival city. All 29 of those pairings are real, documented sporting and civic rivalries — the kind both cities joke about themselves. If the town in your address is one half of a pair, your barrels go to the other half.

The cities are real. The ministries that seize your shipment are not. Nothing here casts any country as anyone's adversary, which is a distinction worth keeping: it is funny to send someone's barrels to their sporting rival, and it is not funny to invent enmity between nations.

The honest list

While you wait — the checklist

The honest bit, as always: this payment was simulated, no card was charged, and no barrels are going anywhere. The city above is real, the rivalry is a real one, and the ministry that seized your shipment does not exist.
